German business council Wirtschaftsrat, Hamburg branch, established a new think tank „Taxes, Budget and Finance” which is headed by Götz T. Wiese. The group of financial experts is going to make recommendations to politicians in Hamburg and Berlin with regard to new laws and their financial impact.

Anna Victoria Jürgensen (c.) und Markus Hepperle (2nd from right) received the WIESE LUKAS Award for the best term paper at Bucerius Law School in 2017. Congratulations! The laudatory speech was delivered  by Professor Karsten Thorn (r.), professor for civil law, private international and international commercial law, and comparative law.

On 26 April 2018, the German Young Ifa Network (YIN) held a discussion meeting on “Transfer pricing: latest developments at OECD level with regard to the digital economy”. Participants were lawyers and tax advisors as well as representatives of companies, universities, the tax administration and tax courts. The meeting was hosted by Deloitte in Hamburg and chaired by Philipp Lukas in his capacity as member of the board of YIN Germany and head of the chapter Northern Germany of YIN.

The Hamburg Corporate Tax Law Forum gathered more than 350 participants for its annual meeting in the auditorium of Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. Former Supreme Court Judge Professor Paul Kirchhof held the opening speech on “Tax and Digitalisation – Impact on Commercial Businesses”. Götz T. Wiese chaired the first panel on “Recent Changes to German Corporate Tax Law”.

The Helmut Schmidt Auditorium in Hamburg was venue of the inaugural lecture of Götz T. Wiese, the newly appointed honorary professor for tax law of Bucerius Law School. Götz talked about “International Tax Law and the Globalisation Trilemma”. The lecture was followed by a gathering of tax professionals from Northern Germany, Bucerius students and alumni, as well as family and friends.

Now, the matter, which serves as a test case for the M&A industry, has been elevated to the German Supreme Court. Götz T. Wiese is discussing the case in the press.

The meeting was hosted by Ernst & Young in Hamburg and chaired by Philipp Lukas in his capacity as member of the board of YIN Germany and head of the chapter Northern Germany of YIN.

On 7 September 2017, Philipp Lukas led a panel discussion in the German Federal Ministry of Finance. The panel included advisors, judges, members of the tax administration and company representatives. The discussion which dealt with latest developments of the international aspects of German trade tax (Gewerbesteuer) was part of the first annual conference of the German Young IFA Network (YIN). Philipp Lukas is a member of the board of YIN Germany.

On 17 May 2017, the chapter Northern Germany of the German Young Ifa Network (YIN) held its first discussion meeting on “Current Developments with regard to cross-border licence payments”. Participants were lawyers and tax advisors as well as representatives of companies, universities, the tax administration and tax courts. The meeting was hosted by PricewaterhouseCoopers in Hamburg and led by Philipp Lukas who is a member of the board of YIN Germany and head of the chapter Northern Germany of YIN.

International Tax Law and Trade Tax: On 21 March 2017, Philipp Lukas gave a lecture on “Amendments to Section 7 of the German Trade Tax Act – renunciation of the territoriality principle?” in the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was hosted by the International Fiscal Association – Division Nothern Germany and co-hosted by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Hamburg Tax Advisors Association and the International Tax Insititute of the University of Hamburg.

The Hamburg Corporate Tax Law Forum gathered more than 330 participants for its annual meeting in the auditorium of Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. Legal consultants, members of the German tax administration, federal tax court judges and legal scholars from around the country discussed topical issues of German corporate tax law. A key topic was the implementation of the OECD action items concerning BEPS. Professor Henning Vöpel, chairman of the Hamburg Institute on the Global Economy (HWWI), held the opening speech. Götz T. Wiese chaired the first panel on “Recent Changes to German Corporate Tax Law”.

At the headquarters of the Federation of German Industries in Berlin, members of the International Fiscal Association gathered for the inaugural meeting of YIN Germany, a network of international tax experts under 40. Representing Northern Germany, Philipp Lukas was appointed member of the board of YIN Germany.

As part of our lecture series “Focus: Taxation and Corporate Law” we presented to our clients “The new inheritance tax law for corporate businesses”. The evening closed with a reception and an interesting exchange of views on various business topics.

Grand Opening: Bucerius Kunst Forum's exhibition "Venice. City of Artists." opened on 1 October 2016. WIESE LUKAS, a supporting member of Bucerius Kunst Club, participated in the vernissage the day before. We enjoyed paintings from Canaletto, Tiepolo, Turner, Monet and Kandinsky, photographs taken by Candida Höfer and Thomas Struth, and many other works of art.
